The Challenge
Delivered Dish, one of the earliest large-scale restaurant delivery companies in the Pacific Northwest, operated on-premise servers, a legacy VB6 desktop application, minimal modern API integration, no cloud presence, outdated mobile and dispatch tools, and limited real-time communication between dispatchers and drivers. To expand into new markets and attract acquisition interest, they needed a complete technology modernization.
Our Solution
Suntek Solutions became the embedded tech department for Delivered Dish — responsible for rebuilding the entire platform from scratch while keeping operations live across all markets:
Cloud Migration & Infrastructure Modernization
Suntek moved Delivered Dish out of a server room and into AWS, establishing scalable EC2 infrastructure, managed databases, secure deployments, and monitoring, logging, and stability improvements. This laid the foundation for multi-market growth.
Platform Rebuild (Front-End, Back-End, Admin)
The legacy VB6 desktop application was fully rewritten using ASP.NET MVC, Knockout.js for dynamic reactive UI (cutting-edge at the time), Bootstrap and modern design patterns, and robust admin portals for operations, restaurant management, and reporting.
Hybrid Mobile Apps — Before Modern Tools Existed
Using the Intel XDK/Cordova stack, Suntek built one of the earliest hybrid delivery-driver apps, a companion restaurant-facing and customer-facing app, and a single codebase targeting both iOS and Android — years before Capacitor or React Native existed.
Innovative Dispatch System with Real-Time Communication
Suntek engineered one of the most advanced dispatch screens of its era, featuring multi-location communication, dispatcher-to-driver chat, cross-market team chat, real-time driver monitoring, color-coded status workflows, and intelligent order assignment and optimization.
Early Adoption of Delivery-as-a-Service (DaaS)
In 2014, Grubhub released one of the first delivery APIs: DAS — Delivery as a Service. Suntek and Delivered Dish were among the first integrators in the country to adopt this API, implementing order injection, delivery event listening, reconciliation, and real-time delivery tracking.
